Know the terms before choosing a programme.
Explore training terminology, programme structure and questions to take to a qualified trainer.
Read the programme before the session
Sets, repetitions, rest intervals and exercise names describe different parts of a training plan. Keep the original instructions together and mark anything you do not understand. An unfamiliar movement deserves a clear demonstration from a suitably qualified trainer, not a guess based on a photograph.
Useful questions to bring along
- Who was this programme written for, and what experience does it assume?
- What equipment and coaching does it require?
- How should the plan be adapted to my circumstances?
- How are technique and progress reviewed?
